About what I was getting at earlier...


Over at History Is Made At Night, someone skips the irony and cuts a lot closer to the bone.

There's been some other discussion this week about the history of BP, about one particular aspect of the long historical shadow that it casts, some of which turns up in the comments section of the above post via a BBC blog post from film-maker Adam Curtis.

For those who didn't sleep through History class, this may all be a no-brainer. Who was it, after all, who played the big role in the carving up of what was formerly the Ottoman Empire -- and what/whose interests factored into the process (as well as other activities in the surrounding region)? Taking modern history in a long tracking shot, we're still very much living with the geo-political consequences.
